Description

Amsterdam's English garden

Opened in 1891, Oosterpark was designed as an English garden by Leonard Anthony Springer. Today, the park is still one of the most beautiful green spaces in the city, although to come here, it had to go a long way.

To build the park, the city had to relocate a centuries old cemetery behind the Tropical Museum. If you are superstitious, the place can still inspire a ghouly feeling. Oosterpark attractions include the National Slavery Monument and a memorial to Theo van Gogh. There are several beautiful sculptures in the park.
