Description

50. The 15th-century late-Gothic basilica is a relative newcomer to the city of Amsterdam, in comparison to the Oude Kerk - the Old Church, which was built in 1306. A few spectacular features, such as a gorgeously ornamented oak chancel, a bronze choir screen, a stunningly grand organ and enormous stained-glass windows, mark its interior, otherwise void of much decoration. Royal investitures and weddings have been held here, but the basilica is also used for art exhibitions and concerts. Opening times and prices may vary, depending on the events taking place, and an audioguide is available for just €2.50.
