Description

The Damrak is the historic entry point into Amsterdam from the Amstel river, as its name suggests, with "rak" meaning a direct stretch of water. In the 19th century, the canal was filled in, leaving only the canal-boat docks on the west side of the river open. These attractive gabled houses that line the water are among Amsterdam's most picturesque sights.
