A museum documenting 700 years of eyewear fashion

The Brilmuseum (National Museum of Spectacles) or Nationaal Brilmuseum en Brillenwinkel, is located in the Dam neighborhood close to the Royal Palace. A collection of eyeglasses dating back to 1620, donated by the Theunissen family, takes visitors on trip through history and culture.

The museum is appropriately located above an old fashioned optician’s shop. Two floors filled with eyeglasses and other objects intrigue visitors at the the Brilmuseum (National Museum of Spectacles). Thanks to the Theunissen family’s obsessesion with spectacles there is a collection from four generations of eyeglass wearers.
